Meeting Skills: The 15 Minute Power Meeting

By Lorna Riley

If time is money, then today the race belongs to the swift. That means running productive, short meetings. Here are agenda guidelines for running an effective 15 minute meeting. If you're a manager, particularly in sales, here are some quick ideas to keep you on track.

What to cover:

1.      Status on accounts, customers, prospecting, or projects.

2.      What are the problem areas, concerns, or obstacles?

3.      What are your successes?

4.      What are the needs?

5.      What are your goals for the next week, month, quarter, etc.?

Types of questions to ask on progress:

What’s going to happen with these prospects/suspects/projects in 90 days?

What is your strategy for each?

Who are the decision makers?

What’s the competitive situation and what are you doing about it?

What do you need to get the job done?

How are you outsmarting the competition?

Agree on next action steps and meeting date to discuss progress. Giving assignments and accountability is key. Keep your meetings to 15 minutes by conducting the meeting standing up. Believe me, people will keep it to the point and productive!
