Bystander Intervention Training: City of Chicago

Learn how to step in confidently to support others and contribute to a workplace culture of accountability and respect. This course meets the requirement for the City of Chicago that every employee participate in a minimum of one hour of bystander training annually. In every workplace, recognizing and responding to inappropriate behavior is essential to fostering a safe environment. This course equips participants with the knowledge and tools for identifying and responding sexual harassment as a bystander. You’ll learn what it means to be a bystander and explore psychological barriers to intervention including diffusion of responsibility, evaluation apprehension, and pluralistic ignorance. You’ll also learn how to use four key intervention strategies effectively and consider how to apply those approaches in real-world situations. By the end of the course, you’ll be better prepared to recognize when something isn’t right, respond appropriately, and help create a safer, more inclusive workplace for everyone.
